The Words We Choose

How did we use our words today?
We really must consider,
For did they help build someone up,
Or leave him feeling bitter?

We often speak before we think,
It's such a nasty habit,
Those words stay there to leave such pain,
To take ones heart and stab it.

We like to say we speak our mind,
And that we are so right.
We say we only speak what's true,
At times our words may bite.

But we should think of other ones,
And how we sound to them,
To say that we're just being us,
Is really wearing thin.

Let's live a day as those we scorn,
And try to wear their shoes,
And if we really do these things,
We'll watch the words we choose.
