The Jester

He's just a jester in the crowd,
He's one so weak and yet so proud,
He's making humour where he lives,
And though he takes, he mostly gives.

Although the brunt of someone's jokes,
And slapped about by verbal strokes,
He looks upon the brighter side,
And takes it all in normal stride.

He stands a head above the rest,
And though they treat the man with jest,
He's wiser than the best of them,
He'll never judge nor will condemn.

Now, why can we not be like him,
And shine our light when life is dim,
And live it on the lighter side,
Instead of trembling where we hide?

For here's a man who's seen by all,
As one so simple, weak and small,
Yet he's the strongest man around,
Although he's mocked, he stands his ground.

And people look at him and stare,
And know that they have been unfair,
And though they may not understand,
They welcome and extend their hand.

No more a jester in the crowd,
He's loved by all and praised aloud,
And lives a life as one who's free,
To be the person he will be.
