The Day Is Done

The day is done and I am alone with my thoughts.
All day long I have been accountable to others,
answering their questions,
giving council and suggestions,
at their beck-and-call,
not my own person,
serving others,
their needs first,
not mine.

Now it is quiet,
No one needs me now,
no demands,
no questions.
I am tired but content,
knowing that the time is mine,
at least for awhile.

Tomorrow it will start again,
Questions,
Council,
Demands,
Demands, demands, demands, demands.

They will not tear me down.
I know who I am.
I will play the part,
do as they ask,
but when it is over I will be my own person,
The dreamer,
Inventor,
The lover,
The poet.

My life is my own,
they will only have it for awhile.
