The Awful Things You Said

I said "Good Night" and then I went to bed,
To dream, forgetting what was said in haste,
But still I hear the awful things you said.

You turned me down and said we'd never wed,
And said our love was nothing but a waste,
I said "Good Night" and then I went to bed.

I tried to heal, but in my spirit, bled,
How oft' I tried to sleep and dreams embrace,
But still I hear the awful things you said.

You crushed my soul, then left it there for dead,
You took your love away without a trace,
I said "Good Night" and then I went to bed.

I had a drink and tried to clear my head,
I thought the bottle was my saving grace,
But still I hear the awful things you said.

I listened as you told me things I dread,
That left me with a very bitter taste,
I said "Good Night" and then I went to bed,
But still I hear the awful things you said.
