Survive

A blurred vision appears
before me.
My head is filled with
shouting voices;
angry voices.
Every sound fills my ears
like a screaming siren.

My head swells
my eyes ache
my only hope is to
wake from this nightmare.

I run, but it always follows.
Like a dark shadow
its presence lingers.

Hanging from every limb,
every bone, every muscle,
its weight pulls me to
the ground.

I scream for help.
All those around me
hear my anguished cry
and though they reach to help,
our hands do not meet.

I am left to survive
on my own.
