They say
that life is nothing more,
Than chance encounters o’er’ and
o’er,
From childhood ‘till an adult be,
Our history is all we see.
I ponder
all of life’s ‘What Ifs’,
And view them all as little gifts,
While some I’ve opened, some I’ve
not,
And some I’ve simply just forgot.
I see my
children growing old,
And wonder how it would unfold,
If I had married someone else,
Instead of her, my wife, my spouse.
Her
children would not be my own,
Nor look like me, nor share my home,
My hist’ry would not be the same,
And that would really be a shame.
But maybe
that is what I’ve done,
And somehow a new life begun,
By one decision never made,
With cards I dealt, but never played.
This
paradox is haunting me,
It holds me tight, won’t let me free,
I sometimes think I’m going mad,
To think of what I might have had.
Yet what
I missed, may have been worse,
My other life could be a curse,
For in this life I have been blessed,
My other one? – I’ll never
guess.
Now every
day I roll the dice,
And when they land, I pay the price,
At times they’re good, at times they’re
bad,
They make me happy, make me sad.
But life
is not a thing of chance,
Where I retreat and I advance,
For even though I roll the dice,
It’s God who orchestrates my life.
“We may throw the dice, but the
Lord determines how they fall.” Proverbs
