Poems of Spirituality/Faith

Religion Is Religion

Religion is religion, whether organized or not,
And it is a religion that has put us in this spot,
Of having to defend our faith and things that we believe,
It really is a nasty web that we have had to weave.

But why is it we put ourselves inside this awful place,
When all we had to do was tell of God's unfailing grace?
To tell of His begotten Son who died upon the cross,
To rescue us from Satan's curse, when we were all but lost.

Instead, we set up man-made shrines and churches made by hand,
But these are just religious things that will not ever stand,
When at His judgment seat we wait to answer for our sin,
It's only those who trust in Christ, eternal life will win.

For God has made it very plain and tells us in His Word,
That trusting in a man-made faith is really quite absurd,
Nor is it a religion that will make us right with Him,
By taking 'holy sacraments' or even singing hymns.

The Gospel is a simple truth and easy to apply,
He sent salvation through His Son, and asks us to reply,
Accepting Christ's own sacrifice or going it on our own,
It's such an easy choice for me; I'll worship at His throne.
