Pride Of The Humble And Great

Some need to be known by the things that they do,
While others are free to be free,
Accepting the gifts that are given to them,
Believing what is and will be.

Some need to be recognized day after day,
For what they perceive to be great,
They think that their 'giving' will make them a star,
And send them on through Heaven's gate.

But what I have seen is that both can be wrong,
The 'givers' and those who are 'free',
Because all their actions can lead them astray,
And leave them with so much debris.

To think they are humble will lead them to pride,
And pride always ends in a fall,
To think they are humble or think they are great,
Will pin them both there to the wall.

For pride of the humble is pride just the same,
And many have taken the bait,
Believing that what they allow to be seen,
Will show off their honourable trait.

Some need to be known by the things that they do,
While others are free to be free,
I'll try to be neither if pride's in the way,
I'll just try to be who I'll be.
