My Japanese Heaven

Picture drawn by my mother when she was 15 years old

She wears a red kimono with golden threads,
And kneels on the floor,
Serving tea in small porcelain cups,
My Geisha of the night.

Her ebony hair is tied in the back,
And adorned with Lotus flowers and silk.
Her skin is like ivory and her lips like crimson,
My Oriental angel.

In a language I don't understand,
She speaks to my soul,
Lifting my spirits as a mist over Mount Fuji,
My Empress of the East.

And I bow in humility and gratitude,
Thankful to be in this Shangri-La,
And lost in this dream,
My Japanese heaven.
